Copper Classic Donation

Trail Riders of Southern Arizona (TRS) presents a donation of $2,500 to the Mammoth-San Manuel Unified School District’s Community Schools. Shown is Lisa Armenta receiving the check from Chuck Ivy of the Trail Riders of Southern Arizona dirt bike club. The proceeds help fund a three-week sports camp in the summer for kids 1st to 8th grades as well as various field trips.

Trail Riders of Southern Arizona is a non-profit club that hosts the San Manuel Copper Classic off-road motorcycle race each year in San Manuel, Arizona and makes it a fundraiser. The race is part of the Arizona Motorcycle Riders Association (AMRA) race series. The last event was held March 9th, 2019. In addition, school kids run a food stand at the race to also raise money.

Copper Classic 2019 – Thank You TRS

TRS,

This we be a very short message. This is just a quick note to say thanks to all who were able to support the 2019 Copper Classic. We just hosted what some say is the best Copper Classic ever! You should be proud to be part of not just this event but also the Trail Riders of Southern Arizona. I hope you can make Tuesday’s club meeting. We will spend the meeting time focused on recapturing our favorite moments of the event.

Important Copper Classic Notice

Greetings TRS!

Time to get serious about the upcoming Copper Classic. The next critical race preparation date is coming very soon. I strongly encourage you to save this date and plan to attend.

Here is what we need to do: Locate and set the wood stakes into the trail and mark the stakes using “Sharpie” markers with course directional information. We also plant the stakes for the Course Worker & Mile Markers signs. On the Friday before the race, we go back out onto the course and staple directional arrows, “wrong way” & “danger” etc. signs to the appropriate stakes.

When?

Date: Sunday March 3, 2019

Time: Ready to work at 8:30am

Where?

Location: Last year’s location of the Copper Classic Registration area, San Manuel Middle School parking lot at Erickson & Avenue D in San Manuel.

All work materials will be supplied. Just bring your bike, water, snack and dress appropriately based on the weather.

The more volunteers the quicker this work is done.

Please RSVP soon.

Work Day #2 Report

Helmets off to all the TRS members and friends who came out to help get the race course ready for race day.

A special thanks to Kelly V. & Anthony B. for putting in OT getting the course ready. Nice work guys.

A large portion of a fence adjacent to the “grass track” was cleared of the vines. This now will allow a superior spectator viewing area for the Big Bike race. Much safer than the arrangement used last year.

This is the name list captured today of all the volunteers, but if someone’s name is missing please reply.

Copper Classic Work Days

A few have asked about tentative dates for the Copper Classic Work days.

We may not need all of these days, it depends on how many club members volunteer and how much work needs to be done.

The January & February dates are intended to make the course safe and ready for use come race day.

March 2 & 3 is when we place the wood stakes out on the course to be later tagged with directional, danger & wrong way arrows on the Friday before the race. This is a key weekend for us.

The February days below have been adjusted from what was discussed at the Planning meeting on Monday night.

Sun 27-Jan
Sat 9-Feb
Sun 10-Feb
Sat 2-Mar
Sun 3-Mar

Please save these dates to your calendar. You can start replying now as to which dates you are available.
