Ride Date: Saturday November 21, 2020

Thanks your interest in There Will Be Dust (TWBD) VIII Recreational Trail Ride & Fund Raiser for Adventure, Dual Sport and Dirt Bikes to be held on Saturday November 21, 2020. PLEASE REMIND YOUR FRIENDS THAT ALL PARTICIPANTS MUST PREREGISTER.

Event Location: Amado Arizona, 85624. The staging area is located at the Longhorn Grill & Saloon, 28851 S. Nogales Hwy. Amado, Az. 85645. (Intersection of I-19 West Frontage and Arivaca Roads)

Friday Afternoon, November 20

Check-in available at the staging area 4:30 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. Day parking is available street side.

Overnight Developed Camping:

Unsupported Camping: There will be unsupported camping available on the grounds of the Amado Territory Inn [3001 I-19 Frontage Rd, Amado, AZ 85645, on the other side of I-19 from the Longhorn] Cost is $10.00 per vehicle per night. Fee will be collected by TRS at Rider check in.

Open fires are NOT permitted. Small propane rings are OK, if monitored. Camping area will be marked with caution tape. Please stay inside the taped area. Bathrooms will be available near the camping area. Campers are not allowed in B&B building. A trash dump will be availableNO riding allowed in camping area. Motorcycle riding permitted ONLY to enter and exit. 5 mph please. 

Dispersed Camping is available: There is camping available nearby on Arizona State Trust Land (a AZSTL Recreation Permit required) and USFS Managed Land. GPS coordinates: 31.655581, 1111.062973

Saturday November 21

Check-in available at staging area 6:00 a.m. – 7:30 a.m. Day parking available street side.

There is No Walk In Registration available. All registrations will be done on-line.

Riders meeting near the check-in area at 7:45 a.m. All riders need to be out of town by 8:15 a.m. 

Meals

Breakfast: Your entry fee pays for a Continental breakfast to be provided by the Longhorn Grill & Saloon.

Lunch: Your entry fee pays for a lunch. Provided by the Long Horn Grill & Saloon in Amado. A box lunch style meal will be served, sandwich wrap, chips, cookie and soft drink. TRS encourages riders to leave your lunch stop by 2:00PM to ensure getting back to Amado while it is still light and in time for dinner. Extra lunch meal tickets can be purchased for your guests.

Dinner: Your entry fee pays for a dinner. The Long Horn Grill & Saloon in Amado will be providing the meal consisting of Tri Tip or Chicken bowl, big cookie, bottomless soft drink and coffee.  Alcohol will be available, on your own at the bar. The dinner meal will be available between 4:00pm to 7:00PM.  Extra dinner meal tickets can be purchased for your guests.

Route information:

  • Route Description/Difficulty: A detailed route information sheet will be provided separate from this communication. There will be active Avenza maps and GPX files.
  • Route Distance:
    • Adventure Bike (V-Strom, BMW friendly) = ~160 miles.
    • Dual Sport (KLR Friendly) = ~130 miles. (some on dirt road or pavement)
    • Dirt Bike (Yamaha 250, KTM 450) = ~110 miles. (dirt roads, single track & limited pavement.

TRS has selected routes that are first and foremost fun. We have avoided anything that by most riders would be considered technically challenging. There will not be any wash sections to traverse.

GPS Track Files: This navigation data will be sent via email to all TWBD participants about a week prior to the event.  Questions about the GPS track can be answered at Check-in on Saturday morning. TWBD participants are responsible for loading the GPX tracks into their personal navigation devices. 

Gas Available: You will be able to purchase gas in Arivaca, Sasabe, Sonoita and Patagonia during the ride. There is NO GAS at the start.

Safety:  THIS IS NOT A RACE! Caution – ALL DIRT ROADS AND TRAILS WILL HAVE TWO WAY TRAFFIC, everything from other bikes, cars, trucks, side x sides and cattle. Please use extra caution in route sections with blind corners.  As best you can, stay on your side of the road! You will ride at or below the posted speed limit on the streets of Amado.

Every participant must check-out with a TRS “Crew “volunteer as you leave Amado to start your ride, check-in at your lunch stop and check-in again upon completing the ride back in Amado.

Do not be afraid to find a riding buddy if you are new to this style of event. Please plan to ride with others, it is not safe to ride alone. 

Raffle Prize Party: To be conducted after dinner ~7:00pm. 1st Raffle ticket is free, $2.00 each or 3 for $5.00. The location of the raffle Prize Party will be announced during the dinner hours.

All participants are responsible for their own safety and should ride within in their range of ability. Carry the basic bike repair supplies, water and a snack to consume along the ride.
