A self guided route around the Sky Islands of the Coronado National Forest for a multiday adventure. We have kept the main route to paved roads and maintained dirt roads so there are few technical challenges for riders. But dehydration, weather, desert creatures, navigation and full days of riding will test a rider’s ability to take care of themselves both mentally and physically.

Reasons why we created the route

Inspire people: Develop an opportunity for people to discover Southern Arizona in a unique way, see it and feel it like the people of the old west did

Develop and Preserve: We wanted to promote adventure motorcycling opportunities and give people something to do once they purchase an adventure motorcycle

Educate: Promote safe riding habits and share our knowledge and experience with those new to the sport

Positive Impact: By developing this route, we hope to create a sustainable positive economic impact for the smaller rural communities nearby. Safford, Douglas, Bisbee, Tombstone, Sierra Vista, Nogales, Green Valley, Arivaca, Sasabe to name few.

A GPX file set is also available. To get this version send TRS $20 via PayPal and within a few days we will e-mail you the GPX file.  Paypal account @TrailRidersAZ  Include in the comments that this is for the Sky Islands. This file contains all the routes color coded for difficulty and all the waypoints. The main disadvantage of this is that with Avenza, should we make any changes to the map, you will get a notification when open Avenza, that an update is available at no cost. With the GPX, you won’t get this. We understand that many are reluctant to use a phone app, but it Avenza really is a good product.
