Red Spring Trail, Phase 2 Exploration Hike/Ride

Starts at the Red Spring Pergola Staging Area

December 5, 2020 @ 8:30 AM 12:00 PM

Time to start exploring possible routes for the Phase 2 of the Red Spring Single Track Trails. This project is on the Coronado NF Agenda for 2012, so it has the backing of the NF. Good stuff.Saturday Dec 5th. Meeting at the Pergola Staging location at 8:30, 4.1 miles up on 684. This hike will be in a 1.5 mile radius of the Staging location.
You should bring your bike or a vehicle to drive to possible starting points. We can break the hike into sections, starting with the hardest sections first. Total length of this section is 2.6 miles. Total hiking distance could be as much as 7 miles! We will probably start the hikes at the point marked as Camp Site.I will bring my bike, unload down at the lower staging location, wear minimal riding gear (helmet and boots, bring hiking shoes) and just cruise up 684.Caution! Hiking this stuff is not easy. It is over very rough terrain, may include major elevation changes and no path exists on the ground. Thus, participants need to be in good physical condition. What to bring. Good hiking shoes, long pants, gloves, water, a GPS tracking device if you have one. (I will supply a track file of the possible routes). Lock for your bike.If we have enough to break into groups, each group must have a leader experienced with trail design and a GPS.We will be scouting the Stage 2 trail. The green line. It connects 684 to 4141. There will be some difficult spots that may not work. Once we figure out if the basic route will work, then we will use it as a section for the training class in March. The training class will define the exact route. We will also do a quick refresher on identifying the Pima Pineapple Cactus.
